{"id":140,"date":"2009-09-01T17:18:55","date_gmt":"2009-09-01T15:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ansuz.nl\/?p=140"},"modified":"2009-09-01T17:42:26","modified_gmt":"2009-09-01T15:42:26","slug":"git","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.ansuz.nl\/index.php\/2009\/09\/01\/git\/","title":{"rendered":"Git"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been meaning to look into <strong>Git<\/strong> for a while now and I&#8217;ve finally found some time to do so.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Git is a free &amp; open source, distributed version control system\u00c2\u00a0 designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been using <strong>SVN<\/strong> for some time and <strong>MS Visual SourceSafe<\/strong> before that. SVN was a big improvement over VSS and Git looks promising by claiming it&#8217;s faster than other revision control systems.<\/p>\n<p>Working on a Windows machine made it a tiny bit harder to get Git up and running as it is developed for Linux. Luckily there are a lot of open source developers and some of them built <strong>MSysGit<\/strong> to have Git running on Windows in an easy way.<\/p>\n<p>Another point is that a lot of developers have an SVN background and are switching to Git. As a result you can plenty of guides telling you how to use Git compared to SVN.
